Now I am not going to get into who is going to win the big game come Sunday because I am definitely biased being a die hard Denver Broncos fan (but you can probably guess which team I will be pulling for this year). Instead, this post will help you class up your beer selection on the final day of football before we go dark for months besides pretending to be excited about the NFL draft. The number one thing that any Super Bowl party must have is a premier selection of brews, and because one team hails from New England and the other from Philadelphia we are going to find some of the most iconic options from those areas of the country.
New England
Now this one is a little difficult because New England isn't a state so there are a lot of great beers to choose from. According to Google, the area on New England is made up of six different states; Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. I will admit this made it difficult to choose the best beer to represent this Team Who Shall Not Be Named because each of these states boasts some great breweries. But in the end, my task was to choose the best beer for a Super Bowl party so I had to stay objective.
I could have gone with The Alchemist Brewery's Heady Topper, which is an American Double IPA sitting at 75 IBUs and 8.0% ABV. But while this is a delicious beer, it didn't seem appropriate for a Super Bowl party. Drink too many of these in the first half and there is a chance you will be sleeping through the half time show. No, what we need is a nice low ABV, sessionable lager. Luckily there is a pretty famous one that is brewed in Massachusetts

Robert Koch first started brewing Samuel Adams Boston Lager in 1984 and it quickly became of the most well known beers in the United States. This beer has the perfect balance of rich malty flavor, hop bitterness, and the crisp refreshing taste that we all know a lager has. Some people might say this is the easy answer to what beer you should have at a Super Bowl party for the Team Who Shall Not Be Named, but I wouldn't agree with them. Plus those people aren't the one writing this post so there.
According to the Samuel Adams website this beer can be paired with anything from blue cheese, to burgers, and even dark chocolate. Which is great for a Super Bowl party because whatever your friend Stacy finds on Instagram and makes for the party will most likely be able to pair with this beer. In the event that you don't have a friend named Stacy, your always good pairing this beer with a nice hot set of wings and blue cheese dipping sauce.
So if you are in the New England area or throwing a Super Bowl Party for the Team Who Shall Not Be Named anywhere in the country, make sure you have stocked your fridges with Samuel Adams Boston Lager. It's sure to help take your party to the next level.
Philadelphia
I'm gonna level with you, I don't know much about Philadelphia. The extent of my knowledge comes from the Rocky movies, the Invincible movie, Philadelphia Cream Cheese and the Philly cheese steak. But I can remember scenes from both Invincible and Rocky where they are sitting in bars drinking beer, so there has to be a local favorite beer around there right?
I started my search in a very disappointing fashion because I couldn't find a beer with anything to do with the "Hey yo Adrian" quote. Come on Philly, your a city that has a statue raised to the guy you should definitely have a beer associated with that movie. But I continued my search and finally settled on the best beer to have at an Eagles Super Bowl Party.

D. G. Yuengling & Son is the oldest brewery in the United States that is still operational. Their Traditional Lager is exactly what I am looking for in a beer while I am watching a football game. It isn't too bitter or too malty but it plays with your taste buds in just the right way. On the Yuengling website they say that it pairs great with grilled food, hot and spicy food, and fried food which are all the staples of a solid Super Bowl spread.
The only downside to this beer is that they don't distribute everywhere in the United States. I've had it while I was on the East Coast, but I have never found it in Colorado. Also checking their website, Greg can't even grab a six pack in Michigan. It's exclusivity makes it that much more attractive and its something that Eagles fans can call their own and be proud of.
If you live in a state that serves Yuengling's Traditional Lager, it should be a requirement that you have it at your Super Bowl party. Unfortunately for all of us outside of their distribution region we are just out of luck for now.
Last Call
The key to success at any Super Bowl party are the food and drink choices. The people you invite are also pretty important, but regardless of anyone's feelings towards the two teams playing if you give them good food and good beer they will have a great time.
This is also a time to rejoice as football fans. We are ending the 2017 season and looking forward to the 2018 season. Anyone who is refusing to watch the Super Bowl is not a true fan in my eyes because this is the last chance to watch football for months. Who knows, maybe Cleveland will be in the Super Bowl next year! Although I am not sure the fans would know what to do with that; they seem pretty content with losing.
So raise a glass of Samuel Adams Boston Lager or Yuengling's Traditional Lager. Enjoy the last day of football while you still can and ignore the fact that tomorrow is a work day.
Cheers!
-Brian
