Midweek Rundown - Netflix Delivers Once Again

It's Wednesday, so let's break up the monotony of the work week and cover what shows we are currently watching. Time for the Midweek Rundown!

Netflix generally has a solid release schedule planned every month, or at least that's how it's been for some time now. Each month we have a long list of new shows or movies, but there are always a couple that stand out above the rest. For example, next month during the July 4th holiday I expect we will all get caught up in the third season of Stranger Things. Before then, though, we have some fantastic shows to keep us occupied - the latest of which being Neon Genesis Evangelion. Personally I have never seen Evangelion until now, but since it's been re-released with an updated English dub I decided to take the plunge. Boy oh boy was it worth it.

If you haven't heard of Neon Genesis Evangelion, then you've probably been living under a rock... or you don't watch anime. I won't judge either way. Evangelion is a classic mecha anime where teenagers fight aliens in giant robots - pretty simple on the surface. Digging deeper you will find a chaotic psychological thriller. As it turns out, linking teenagers with giant biological mecha is more taxing on the mind than you would think. To top it off, though, these kids are the best hope that humanity has for defeating the alien invaders and preventing another apocalypse - as far as they've been told. No pressure, right? The story is a unique combination that was executed well.

The series runs for 26 quick episodes, and you can likely binge watch it in one weekend. Be wary though, you'll want to include watching the End of Evangelion - a full length movie that fills in some of the gaps left from the last two episodes. For my personal impressions I would say it's all great fun, and has been an absolute joy to watch. Having been released initially in 1995, I would say that Evangelion has definitely held up over the years. If you have the time and are in any way interested, this is definitely one you want to check out.

Have you been watching the re-dub of Evangelion this week? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
